Find out if they have experience with playing in weddings, how many weddings they have performed for, if they provide emcee services, how they handle emergencies or last-minute changes, and so on. After the phone conversation, you will know if this band interests you.
Now, you take the bands that you are most interested in and set up time to see them perform in person. This will allow you to see how they move on stage and interact with the audience, which is very important. Pay close attention to the things they say, listening to inappropriate actions or words that might create a problem for your reception. When the band takes a break, take this time to approach the lead and introduce yourself, reminding him or her that you had spoken on the phone.
Once you have decided the band you want to hire, remember that most bands need a minimum of 10 months. For this reason, it is crucial that you plan well so you do not miss the perfect opportunity. When you determine the perfect band for your wedding reception, you need to get down to business. This involves setting the price and laying all the contract aspects on paper.

Therefore, ask the band if they will announce you and your new spouse, if they will announce the first dance, work with you on the music genre, etc. What you want is to feel good about your choice and to do that you need to put things into motion early on so there are no delays in hiring the band you want.
