Wedding Photography Overview

One of the most important decisions you will make for your wedding is the person you choose as the photographer. If you think about it, you are entrusting someone, usually a complete stranger, to capture the most cherished day of your life. For this reason, you want to choose only the best, making the right decision.

You can start on your end by thinking about the style of photography that best matches your wedding, personality, and lifestyle. If you are free spirited and fun loving, then you might want a photographer that can capture this side of you by taking unique photographs that are a little non-traditional. On the other hand, if conservative and planning a traditional wedding, then you need a photographer that will provide quality, formal photographers. Remember, you can choose from any number of styles to include black and white, photojournalism, formal portraits, sepia prints, or any combination thereof.

After you have determined the type of photographer you are most interested in, you can now begin the search for the best photographer. One of the best places to start looking is through friends and family members that have recently been married. No only can they provide you with references for the photographer, but also provide valuable information that will help you through the process. Other options include looking through your local yellow pages and on the Internet.

A very popular choice is to hire a videographer. This individual will be responsible for video taping your wedding and then saving it on VHS, DVD, or CD so you can watch it time after time. This is a great option if you have family and friends that live in other states or countries and are not able to attend the wedding. All you have to do is either ship them a CD, or it can be shared over the computer. Additionally, many couples love having the actual wedding movement and sound recorded so as they have children, they can share it with them.

The one thing to remember when interviewing photographers and/or videographers is the price. Without doubt, this is an expensive aspect of any wedding so you need to have your budget set before you start the interview process. You will be amazed at the range that this service costs. For instance, if you are choosing a standard wedding package, you should expect to pay anywhere from $1,000 to $4,000. However, if you are choosing a fantasy wedding by going all out, you could easily pay $15,000 or more, just on the photography.

Finally, before you make any decision or commitment to one photographer or videographer, make sure you get and follow up on referrals. After all, anyone can tell you whatever you want to hear but it is your responsibility to check out the references to determine if other customers were happy with the final product. This process is quick and easy and well worth the investment of a few phone calls.
