Weddings - Maid of Honor Duties

As the bride, the person that will be standing up with you as your Maid of Honor is your closest sister or friend. This individual is someone that you will depend on heavily during the planning stage of the wedding and the person that will be there for you no matter what. The role of Maid of Honor is truly one that should be taken seriously in that it comes with a lot of responsibility but also fun.

After you have determined who will be standing in your wedding as the Maid of Honor, the two of you will eed to sit down and discuss the fine details of the wedding and reception. In fact, if you have someone chosen, before you have her commit to this position, you should probably help her understand the responsibilities that are associated with being Maid of Honor. At that time, she can evaluate her time with the time she will need to invest to ensure she can fill the role appropriately. Just to give you an idea of some of the main functions of this role, consider the following:

The bride will depend on her Maid of Honor when it comes time to shop and be fitted for the wedding gown. The Maid of Honor will also help shop with the other members of the bridal party, as they look for gowns.

The Maid of Honor is also the person that is there to help with whatever the bride needs. This means she will help address the wedding invitations, create wedding favors or centerpieces, running errands, going to taste the wedding cake, and so on.

Another responsibility is the organizing of the bridal shower or bachelorette party. As the Maid of Honor, she will organize, do all the planning, and host the parties.

During the bridal party, the Maid of Honor will keep track of all the names of people that purchased gifts and log those along with the gift received so the bride can send out appropriate thank you cards.

To ensure the bridesmaids are ready on time, dressed and hair done, and on their way down the aisle on time, the Maid of Honor will spearhead the activities

During the wedding ceremony, just as the Best Man holds the brides ring, the Maid of Honor will be responsible for holding onto the grooms ring

While the bride is getting ready for the wedding, the Maid of Honor will be by her side, fixing her hair, adjusting makeup, helping her dress in her gown, making any last many changes, and anything else needing to be done

While the bride and groom are exchanging their wedding vows, the Maid of Honor will hold onto the brides bouquet until the ceremony is over and the bride takes it back to leave the church with her new husband

Another responsibility is the signing of the wedding license as a witness along with the Best Man

If you plan to have dancing at the wedding reception, tradition would have the Best Man and Maid of Honor dance together
