Wedding Facilities Guide

When it comes time to planning your wedding reception, the most important thing you need to do is wait until you have received a final headcount. That way, you can book the type of location that will accommodate the right number of people. Too often, people will book a reception location too far ahead and one of two things happen first, the location is too small, making for a miserable reception or two, the reception location is too large, which means you pay way too much.

Therefore, wait for your final countand when you are ready to start looking, be sure to keep your options open. For example, some people think that only a church, hotel, or reception hall are the options. However, you have many more to include botanical gardens, local parks, museums, art galleries, mansions, country clubs, and so on. Then, once you have narrowed your search down to just a few, you will need to ask questions of each to make sure they will work for your wedding reception. The following are some of the common questions that you would need to obtain answers for:

What is the decorum of the location? This is important in that you want the wedding to coordinate with the style of your wedding. As a part of this factor, especially if you were on a tight budget, you need to make sure that not too much work would have to go into making the reception hall exactly as you want. In other words, would you have to spend a lot of money on flowers and other decorations to make the location perfect?

Will the location offer the services of a caterer or will you have that added expense? If they do provide a caterer, will you have the opportunity to work with them in creating the menu?

If the wedding will be held during cold weather, will they offer a coat check? If so, will it be manned to ensure everyone gets the right coat with tight security measures?

Does the facility have a liquor license and are the servers also licensed? Will they provide all of the alcohol or can you bring your own in to save money? You also want to find out about the corkage fee.

What are the guarantee and cancellation policies?

Finally, once you have asked all the important questions, it is imperative that you get everything in writing. You need to make sure there are no hidden fees, you have coverage in case someone in charge has an emergency, and that you know exactly what to expect from the location and provided services.
